This year marks the 64th Anniversary of the Annual Jingle Bells Telethon which will be held Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 5-10 p.m. CST. Join the efforts to bring joy and comfort to those in need this holiday season.
The telethon, which is held every December at the Lake Geneva Christian Center in Alexandria, is planned and organized by the Alexandria Jaycees, since its beginning in 1949 by Ken Bechtel and Julian Newhouse. The first fundraiser brought in $500, but its popularity has grown, since its humble beginnings. Since then, the Jingle Bells Foundation has raised nearly $2,000,000 and has helped tens of thousands of families across Minnesota.
Last year, the event raised more than $115,000. All the money raised goes towards food and gift baskets to families in need. When the event started in 1949, the donations were gathered the day of the telethon, and food packages were delivered that night.
Today, it takes more than two full days to prepare and deliver the baskets to the local communities, as there is an overwhelming need for them in Central Minnesota. With the help of many volunteers and amazing sponsors, these families are delivered food and toy baskets in time for the holidays.
